Administrative Internship Interest Meeting

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Affirmative Action Administrative Internship Committee will host an interest meeting from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 in the University Union Lincoln Room to provide internship information to full-time WIU employees.

According to Ellyn Bartges, assistant equal opportunity officer in Western's Office of Equal Opportunity and Acccess, the informal meeting will allow full-time employees who may be interested in applying for 2010-2011 administrative internship to ask questions of the internship committee as well as former interns.

Since 1980, the Affirmative Action Administrative Internship program at Western has provided opportunities for women and minorities employed by Western to gain experience in administrative settings throughout the University. Under the internship program, WIU employees are given the opportunity to work on a release time temporary basis under the direction of an administrative mentor. The internships are usually half-time for a full academic year or full-time for one semester. Interns observe and take part in many of the University's administrative areas.

Nearly 100 Western Illinois employees have participated in the program since its inception, serving as interns in offices such as the School of Extended Studies, the President's Office, Student Services and Administrative Services.

Applications for the 2010-2011 academic year are available at wiu.edu/eoa/aaaip.php. For more information contact the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access at (309) 298-1977.
