Sixteen accessions of niger, Guizotia abyssinica, were obtained from the Western Regional Plant Introduction Station for evaluation in western Illinois. Seeds were germinated in the greenhouse (4/13/2001) and transplanted to the field at the eight-leaf stage (5/11/2001).

Three accessions are in full bloom and reaching heights
of four feet. Only minor lodging has been notice with no
insect and disease symptoms present on any plants.
