The Broadcasting Department opens its doors to students and parents from around the state. In the morning students will get a tour of our facilities and have a chance to meet with faculty in a question and answer session. At 11:00 AM a 20-minute version of our wiutv3 newscast will be produced for our audience. Students are allowed to stand behind the anchors on the set or watch the proceedings in the studio and control room.
After lunch, those who are interested in sports head down to our new television remote truck at the football or basketball stadium and have a chance to work in front of the camera as play-by-play, color commentator, and work the camera equipment. Each sports anchor receives a tape of their work.
Those who are interested in news head back to the control room and studio to do their own newscast. All the positions including crew and anchoring are done by the high school students. The positions include news, sports, and weather anchors, technical director, audio, character generator, and studio cameras. Several short newscasts are produced with a different crew each time. Students who work the anchor slots receive a VHS tape of their newscast.
Those interested in radio production head over to WIUS FM for a chance to get on the air during one of our normal radio shows. Everyone who attends Broadcasting Day received a DVD of our program.
Everyone has a great time including our own majors who have the opportunity to talk about their own experience in our program.
