WIU Broadcasting - Graphics & Multimedia
Broadcast students at WIU have the opportunity to compose computer- generated graphics and animation for television. Our program currently teaches "Television Graphics", "On-line Writing", and"Multimedia Design for Mass Media" using:
Mac Workstation Lab with:
- 18 iMacs workstations using:
- Adobe PhotoShop C3S, Dreamweaver CS3,
iMovie, iDVD,
Color laser printer and scanners
The Course "Television Graphics
- In the class Television Graphics, students design and compose computer-generated stills used in the anchor "box" during the WWIR TV newscasts.
- Anchor boxes are graphic representations of news stories and are an integral part of any newscast.
- The box is normally keyed in over the news anchor's shoulder while reading a news story. Students learn to use Adobe photocopy to design multi-layered stills and then import them into Power Point as a means to display them during the newscast.
- Students design both generic and story-specific stills.
- Students in the TV Graphics class also learn to generate true 3-dimensional computer animation's. The animation's can be of any length, but need to serve some sort of purpose such as program introductions, segues, or tell a story.
The Course "On-line Writing"
- Understand what online journalism is and how to write for the web
- Develop online writing skills though daily maintenance of wiutv3 Online web site
- Understand web design principles including HTML, FTP, CSS, Javascript & Spry
- Develop intermediate-level web design skills using Adobe Dreamweaver
- Understand and utilize image, audio and video optimization for the Internet using various optimization software including iMovie, Adobe Audition & Photoshop.
The Course "Multimedia Design for Mass Media"
- Increase your understanding in the theory and practical application of multimedia-based broadcast journalism designing and developing:
- DVD portfolio of your work following the BC 497 Portfolio Guidelines and Transmittal Sheet
- A promotional, educational, or entertainment-based multimedia project designed for an actual client
- Become familiar with the tools used to author DVD multimedia projects including Apple I-Movie, I-DVD, QuickTime Pro, Audacity, MS Power Point, and Adobe PhotoShop CS.
