Description: University campuses should offer students a safe space for study and growth, for broadening perspectives and circles of friends and peers. What happens when tension arises because of cultural divides among students, faculty, and staff as they try to interact?
Dr. Tracy Knight, Psychology, will introduce this topic. Why is it often easy to empathize with a friend but difficult to do so with people who don’t share our culture or perspectives? Why are people more likely to judge the latter harshly? Is it possible to develop empathy across cultural differences?
