CANCELED - How People Learn and Designing Course Assignments to Maximize Student Engagement

Description: Students come to class with preconceptions and often misconceptions about course content. Teachers must address preconceptions so new content can be connected to students' knowledge structure. Course assignments should cause students to think deeply about the content away from the classroom and support self-regulated learning. This session will present key research findings about how people learn. This workshop will also present strategies to assist teachers in developing course assignments that are aligned with how people learn.
