Institute for Applied Criminal Justice Studies (IACJS)

The globalization of crime has generated a host of issues of direct interest to the international justice community. The Institute for Applied Criminal Justice Studies address criminal justice issues arising in the areas of human rights, law enforcement, jurisprudence, corrections, security, social inequality, conflict resolution, advanced technology, and environmental abuses. The primary goal of the Institute is to facilitate cooperative efforts to address these issues and help guide public policy. The Institute accomplishs its cooperative efforts to address these issues and help guide public policy. The institute accomplishs its goal by providing professional education and training opportunities that impact justice agencies worldwide.

A secondary goal of the Institute for Applied Criminal Justice Studies is to provide education and training programs that deal with professional issues of specific concern to U.S. and Illinois criminal justice personnel.

The objectives of the Institute include the following:

  • Integration of a broad array of advanced information, communication resources, and networking opportunities into instructional and training settings organized and developed by the Institute.
  • Delivery of education and training programs by means of the advanced technological capabilities of Western Illinois University's College of Education and Human Services, including satellite and CODEC-based broadcasts, Internet instruction, virtual learning classrooms, online training modules, two-way interactive training, video streaming, and archived retrievable resources.
  • Creation of partnerships and collaborative relationships with educational institutions, government agencies, and private industry that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the Institute.
  • Dissemination of scholarly research on criminal justice issues in the areas of human rights, law enforcement, jurisprudence, corrections, security, social inequality, conflict resolution, advanced technology, and environmental abuses.
  • Sponsorship of continuing professional education congresses to address topics of current interest to the criminal justice community consistent with the mission of the Institute.
