2007 Summer Experience

Instructor reading two students computer screensThe Western Illinois University annual College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) Summer Experience, was held on the campus of Western Illinois Univeristy , July 25-26 and at the Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, IL August 2-3 for Illinois-based school teachers.

Sponsored by the Office for Partnerships, Professional Development, and Technology (OPPDT), the program brought together Pre-K-12 teachers and administrators for two days of hands-on technology sessions focused on building student-centered instruction and technology-enhanced classrooms. The 2007 conference featured a Hawaiian theme and provided information for educators on how current and emerging technologies can enhance student learning and help create a classroom paradise. Jim LaPrad speaking to Lloyd Kilmer at FI reunionThe College of Education and Human Services entered Y2K with an experiential program for students and faculty.  In 2000, COEHS sponsored a laptop program with a cohort of elementary education majors.  The students were provided laptop computers and taught how to use them as instructional tools, and then allowed to take the computers and use them for instruction and communication when they left campus their final semester to complete student teaching. This is the question that echoed throughout the College of Education and HumanServices’ Office for Partnerships, Professional Development, and Technology (OPPDT) on the campus of Western Illinois University on October 5, 2006. Thirteen Macomb High School students from the Project East Initiative visited the Interactive Multimedia Lab in Horrabin Hall 104 to create 60-second audio podcasts for submission to the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) 21st Century Explorer Podcast Competition.
