Technology Initiatives - Virtual World and Second Life

As we look into the future of technology and the world in which students live, two faculty members begin a new chapter in teaching for COEHS. Dr. John Closen (EDL) and Ms. Karen Zellman (SW) are researching simulation and gaming in instruction through the use of Second Life, a virtual reality world.

Ms. Zellman is currently developing a proposal for Campus Second Life. Upon successful acceptance to the program, she will receive a free plot of land to develop for social work practium experiences.

Dr. Closen will focus on the technical aspects and viability of the use of Second Life in teaching and learning as he incorporates it into his Technology Management course for students in the Educational Leadership program during the summer of 2008.
