Dropbox Options

Western Illinois University Customers

If you are a DPS customer connecting to the DPS website using the University network–either on-campus or using University dial-up services–please use the DPS in-house dropbox.

Customers from Outside Western Illinois University Customers

If you are a DPS customer connecting to the DPS website from outside the University network; please use the DPS web-based dropbox.

Instructions for Using the DPS In-House Dropbox

Note: When undertaking the instructions below, do not attempt to open the folder called "DPS-DropBox". DPS has designed the DPS-DropBox folder, like all such dropboxes, to allow users to drop files into the dropbox without seeing the contents of the dropbox.

Windows 7 Users

Go to Network either by clicking on the Start button and clicking on "Network" or typing in the word "Network" and selecting it from the list of programs and files that appears.

In the address bar of Network, enter the address "\\dps1.wiu.edu\DPS-FileTransfer" and press the Enter key.

Inside the DPS-FileTransfer folder that appears, customers will find two folders, "DPS-DropBox" and "DPS-PickUpBox". Customers can drop files into DPS-DropBox but cannot see the contents of DPS-DropBox, nor can they copy files from DPS-DropBox; likewise, customers can pick up files from DPS-PickUpBox but cannot put files into DPS-PickUpBox.

Note to DPS customers: Please notify your DPS contact with file names before or immediately after copying files to the DPS-DropBox. Please delete files from DPS-PickUpBox once they have been copied to your local storage. Thank you.

Windows XP Users

In the Address bar of My Network Places, enter the address "\\dps1.wiu.edu\DPS-FileTransfer". Click the "Go" button on the right of the Address bar. If a dialog appears asking for a user name and password, enter "guest" (without the quotation marks) in the user name field, and leave the password field blank.

Inside the DPS-FileTransfer folder that appears, customers will find two folders, "DPS-DropBox" and "DPS-PickUpBox". As a DPS customer, you can only drop files onto the DPS-DropBox folder. You cannot open the DPS-DropBox folder. You cannot see the contents of DPS-DropBox folder. Likewise, customers can pick up files from DPS-PickUpBox but cannot put files into DPS-PickUpBox.

Note to DPS customers: Please notify your DPS contact with file names before or immediately after copying files to the DPS-DropBox. Please delete files from DPS-PickUpBox once they have been copied to your local storage. Thank you.

Mac OS X Users

From the Finder, select "Connect to Server..." from the "Go" menu.

In the "Connect to Server" dialog, enter the address "dps1.wiu.edu" (without the quotation marks) in the "Server Address" field. Click the "Connect" button.

In the "Connect to Server" login dialog, click the "Guest" radio button from the "Connect as" options. Click the "Connect" button.

In the list of sharepoints in the DPS-Server1 dialog, select "DPS-FileTransfer".

Inside the DPS-FileTransfer folder that appears, customers will find two folders, "DPS-DropBox" and "DPS-PickUpBox". Customers can drop files into DPS-DropBox but cannot see the contents of DPS-DropBox, let alone copy files from DPS-DropBox; likewise, customers can pick up files from DPS-PickUpBox but cannot put files into DPS-PickUpBox.
