Gamma Kappa Chapter History
Delta Sigma Phi Gamma Kappa Chapter was established at Western Illinois University on October 8th, 1950. The chapter originally started with twenty-six active brothers and quickly grew to the most distinguished Greek house on campus. The Delta Sigma Phi house moved to 830 N. Avery with the completion of the house in 1961. The original home housed fifty men with the third floor being a "barracks" style sleeping area for all men. The second floor consisted of study rooms with four men per room. It was extensively remodeled in the early 80's with the second floor rooms being converted to two man rooms and the third floor divided into the one and two man rooms. Prior to the house being located at 830 N. Avery the house had been located at 315 N. Sherman. On December 8th, 2000 the Delta Sigma Phi house caught fire, although the cause of the fire was never determined the house and all its contents were gone. The house was currently housing twenty-six active brothers who were relocated to Olson Hall on the WIU campus. At the time of the fire Delta Sigma Phi had 70 members. After three long years and countless man hours the Delta Sigma Phi house re-opened in Fall 2003. The new house is a four story house, including the basement which can hold up to 29 residents. The groundbreaking ceremony for the house was September 14, 2002.
