Kent Johansen earned his doctorate from Northern Illinois University (1988).  He is a graduate of Illinois State University with a BS and MS in Education. 

Prior to his current academic position, Kent served as a unit district superintendent, high school principal, assistant principal, department chair, state curriculum consultant, and school board member. He also has 25 years experience serving on various NCA visiting committees and ISBE quality review visiting teams. He has made presentations to various local and regional business groups and educational organizations including an international presentation on Educational Leadership in Cologne, Germany.
 
Kent has also been active in the recruitment of educational leaders since 1996. He has been involved in performing educational leadership searches as an individual and as a consultant for various search firms. In addition, he has recently published an article about the process of hiring a superintendent and understanding the candidate pool for the superintendent position in Illinois (Johansen, K.F., (2006).
