FYE Faculty & Course Listings

Courses for FYE must meet the following guidelines:

  1. Be offered for a minimum of 3 semester hours per course
  2. Be lower division courses generally taken by first year freshman
    (esp. Gen Ed. and some introductory courses in the major)
  3. Be limited to 25 students per section
  4. Include at least 3 co-curricular events (with the possible addition of one or more library assignments), which will be related meaningfully to the course content (and graded material such as exams, papers, etc.)
  5. Integrate out-of-the-classroom events and the University theme, as appropriate, into the class meetings through discussion and other explorative processes
  6. Incorporate writing assignments (with opportunity for revision), representing a minimum of 25% of the graded material in the course
  7. Have a student ‘peer mentor’ who will assist the instructor with out-of-class assignments, discussion sessions, etc.
  8. Include an assessment component to evaluate the impact of the FYE program on the first year
