First Year Experience
FYE: For Prospective Students
We’re glad you are considering Western!
The First Year Experience (FYE) program is a unique part of Western Illinois University—it's one of the things which separates Western from other colleges and universities. FYE helps first-year students make a successful transition to college. The program permeates the entire first year and includes components such as a common reading, a FYE-designated content course (i.e., general education or major course), and freshmen-only residence halls.
The FYE program provides:
- A common set of experiences to all first-year students, from courses to residence hall life, —so you’ll have lots to talk about as you make friends;
- Support for academic and personal success, built into courses and your Western experience—it’s one of the reasons you can be sure you won’t "fall through the cracks" at WIU;
- the small class sizes which make getting to know your professors much easier.
