      Current:          Geographic Information System Modeling I

                              Emphasis upon raster and 3D modeling based upon continuous data.  Integration of vector data and concepts when appropriate for the solution to cell-based problems.  Laboratory.

                              Prereq: GEOG 208 and GEOG 308

 

                        Proposed:       Environmental Geographic Information Science

Emphasis upon raster and 3D modeling based upon continuous data.  Laboratory exercises focus on typical environmental problems solved with GIS.  Topics include the integration of thematic data and concepts when appropriate for the solution of environmental problems.

Prereq: GEOG 308 or GEOG 402; and STATS 171, GEOG 301, or its equivalent as a co-requisite

                              Introduction to methods for the quantitative analysis of data, their applications to geographical problems and their limitations in geographical contexts.

                              Three facets of climatology are investigated:  climate elements and atmospheric processes; climatic classifications and distributions; and the influence of climate on human activity

      Proposed:       Environmental Climatology

                              This course deals with the mechanisms of heat flow, radiation exchanges and water vapor flux and with the effects of climate on organisms, ecosystems, and human societies as well as changes in global environment.
