a.       History of Articulation Agreement

                                                                 i.      Articulation Agreement agreed to in 1970s

ii.      In 1990s the General Education Core Curriculum (GECC) came into being to facilitate ease of transfer.

iii.      Less than 20% of community colleges have automated the process of checking degree requirements

iv.      WIU checks to see if people meet IAI (Illinois Articulation Initiative. GECC is an important subset of IAI dealing with general education)

1.      If your transcript says you met IAI when you arrive, WIU accepts that.

a.       However, WIU says if you haven’t met IAI when you arrive, you must take additional six hours in Gen Ed that WIU students must have—beyond GECC. WIU requires more hours than GECC.

b.      The council received the following request in re: Completion of GECC

                                                                                                                                         i.      Under the following circumstances, institutions should offer transfer students the option of satisfying lower-division general education requirements by completing a GECC curriculum while enrolled in the receiving institution.

ii.      When the transfer student has completed a statewide articulated associate degree such as the AFA, AES, ATT; or

iii.       When the transfer student has completed 30 semester hours of transfer credit without having completed the GECC.

2.      Discussion of the above.

5.      Meeting adjourned at 4:15 PM.

            Respectfully submitted,

            Bill Thompson
