This first issue of the Mobile Computing Task Force Newsletter is to inform the campus community of the task force’s efforts to prepare and implement mobile computing into the learning environment at Western Illinois University. The task force met four times during the fall semester of 2008 and will continue its work indefinitely—the minutes of the December 10, 2008 meeting are available in this newsletter.

The task force members are interested parties who have knowledge of such programs at their previous institutions of employment or institutions with which they are familiar. See the membership of the Task Force Committee and Sub-Committees within this newsletter.

Additional contents of this newsletter include a view of mobile computing from a student’s perspective, a timeline for implementation of a recommended laptop program for the Department of Broadcasting, and links to information and studies about mobile computing at other institutions of higher learning.
