Richard J. Hardy, political science chair, and Aimee Shouse, women's studies interim chair, published an article, "A University-Wide Responsibility: Civic Engagement and the Presidential Election," analyzing WIU's Mock Presidential Election, in the September issue of The Journal of College and Character.

Richard J. Hardy moderated a debate regarding judicial selection at the plenary session fo the Missouri Bar's Annual Judicial Conference in Kansas City, MO, in September 2008.

Charles Hinderliter presented "Civil War and Social Infrastructure: Consequences for Education in the Former Yugoslavia" and served as panel chair, Conflict Termination, at the 67th Annual National Conference of the Midwest Political Science Association, held April 2-5, 2009, in Chicago.

Jongho Lee presented two papers at the Southern Political Science Association meetings, held in New Orleans, LA, January 8-10, 2009. Papers titles were entitled "Variation in the Significance of Emotional Responses as a Guide to the Voting Decision" and "Who Participates in Transnational Political Activities and Why?"
