The Hotel Nauvoo was built in 1841, through the combined efforts of J. J. Brendt, a Later Day-Saint, and Adam Swartz, a German immigrant. William C. Reimbold, who converted it into the Hotel Oriental, purchased the residence, in 1885. The Reimbold family ran the Hotel Oriental until 1946 when John A. Kraus purchased it. Kraus' son, Elmer, then extensively restored the hotel. By 1948, restoration was complete and the building was reopened as the Hotel Nauvoo. The entire hotel offers a unique atmosphere that builds upon the buildings original historic charm. Located in the heart of historic Nauvoo, the Hotel Nauvoo is within walking distance of the city park, downtown shops, and Nauvoo's Temple Square.
