Technology Committee Minutes

Committees and Task Forces charged with meeting the technological future of Western Illinois University attempt to publish minutes from their meetings on a regular basis to provide an open forum of their efforts.

President's Technology Advisory Users Group
The President's Technology Advisory Users Group consists of end users from each vice presidential division and governance group on both Western Illinois University campuses. The group works with the President's Technology Infrastructure Group to make technology recommendations to the President's cabinet.

President's Technology Infrastructure Group
The President's Technology Infrastructure Group consists of technology managers from Western Illinois University. The group works with the President's Technology Advisory Users Group and the four Task Forces to make technology recommendations to the President's cabinet.

E-mail Transition Team
The E-mail Transition Team efforts will develop a 12- to 24-month comprehensive e-mail, calendaring and groupware transition plan as the campus moves to Zimbra, the single, unified solution for Western Illinois University.

Portal Task Force
The Portal Task Force efforts will identify key features of portal development by studying strengths, limitations, and lessons learned with portals at other Illinois public universities and benchmark institutions; work closely with the President’s Technology Advisory Users Group and the campus community to identify/prioritize key features in portal development; and provide President Goldfarb with a plan and timeline for portal development and implementation.

Technology Security Task Force
The Technology Security Task Force efforts will lead to a comprehensive three-year technology security plan for Western Illinois University; recommendations on immediate and corrective actions documented in all internal and external audit reports; and assistance to Internal Auditing with internal and external technology audits.

University Identification Card Task Force
The University Identification Card Task Force efforts will review current Western Illinois University ID card policies, procedures, and use for students, faculty, and staff; and current, new, and emerging identification card technologies. And, in consultation with the Security Committee, the University Identification Card Task Force will develop a comprehensive plan to deploy a universal identification card system for Western Illinois University-Macomb and Quad Cities.
