Web Initiatives

Web Services is engaged in a variety of initiatives to support web services at WIU. These initiatives represent activities internal to WIU, as well as partnerships with entities outside of WIU.

Web Advisory Committee

To provide a broad-based view of the web needs of the campus community and its external reach, primary web contacts from each university division and academic college, along with a core group of technology representatives will form a new university Web Advisory Committee. This committee will function to provide a collaborative approach to changes in policy, procedure, content, and design of the more than 20,000 pages of the wiu.edu domain.

Web Content Management System

Web Services is currently reviewing options for piloting a web content management system (wCMS) that eventually could be used by the campus community. Content management technology enables a wide variety of users to publish content to the web without requiring specialized web software by using a simple word processing type of interface. In addition to this ease of use, a wCMS would allow the university a much more integrated approach to its web presence while also ensuring the accessibility of its web content.

A pilot deployment of a wCMS is planned for this academic year (2008-2009). A technical subcommittee has been formed and will be providing input to the Web Advisory Committee on a suggested wCMS this fall.
