Feminist Action Alliance

For students interested in feminist activism, the Department of Women’s Studies highly recommends that students become involved in the Feminist Action Alliance (FAA) through the WIU Women’s Center

FAA works on numerous projects throughout the academic year, including;

FAA is an excellent resource for students wanting to put feminist theory into practice in their local community.

Triota

To recognize academic excellence in Women’s Studies, the department maintains the Alpha Kappa chapter of Iota Iota Iota (referred to as Triota), the Women’s Studies Honor Society.

Triota was initiated at Metropolitan State College of Denver, which held its first induction ceremony in the fall of 1992 to recognize the academic achievements of students in Women's Studies. The Greek letter, iota, was selected for the name to represent the three goddesses Inana, Ishtar, and Isis.

Iota Iota Iota strives to maintain the feminist values central to Women's Studies and encourage diversity, egalitarianism, and supportive academic environment for all students.

Students must have a GPA of at least 3.00 and have taken at least six semester hours in Women’s Studies to join.  Triota members participate in a service project each year and are awarded purple cords to wear at graduation.

The one-time membership fee is $10 and can be paid in the Women’s Studies office in Currens Hall 510.
