Breadth and Depth of Available Classes
The curriculum for a Finance major starts with a core of five required Finance classes: Financial Management I, Principles of Real Estate, Financial Institutions and Markets, Risk Management and Insurance, and Investments. These courses provide Finance majors with a breadth of knowledge in all areas of finance. Finance majors can then choose from a range of advanced electives that allow for preparation in specific areas such as banking, corporate finance, investments, real estate, and risk management. Each of these areas has at least two additional elective courses that allows you to obtain the depth of knowledge in a specific area of finance and to meet your specific career goals.
Small Class Sizes
Classes for Finance majors are capped at 35 students, with many upper division Finance classes capped at 25 students. All Finance classes are taught by faculty (no teaching assistants) with over 70% of all classes taught by professors with a doctorate in the field. At WIU, classes are small enough that our Finance professors know our students by name in nearly all classes.
