Undergraduate Majors, Minors & Programs of Study

Program: Botany

Program Overview

Botany, plant science, is an option of study in the Bachelor of Science in Biology. At WIU, a majority of courses in the department have a laboratory component in addition to classroom lecture. Laboratory class sizes are small; usually held to 14 students, allowing each student to view the material, ask questions, and handle the study organisms directly.

The study of Botany prepares students to work in parks or gardens, governmental or environmental agencies, the pharmaceutical industry, or for graduate work.

Students planning to major in Botany should complete three years of mathematics and one year each of biology, physics, and chemistry in high school.
