Program Overview

A Bachelor of Arts in English (Literature and Language) offers critical writing, reading and thinking skills to students through active engagement with literature, film, creative and expository writing. This major can be paired with a complementary minor. Students can also choose the comprehensive major of English Teacher Certification and be qualified to teach English at the secondary level (grades six through twelve).

At WIU, English majors are prepared to succeed in graduate or professional schools, as well as enter careers such as advertising, public relations, or publishing.
