Scholarships

The department awards over 20 scholarships to accounting majors each year at the Accounting Awards Banquet. Through the generous endowment funds and contributions of alumni and friends, the scholarships are given to students who are willing to meet the challenge to perform to the best of their abilities.

Internal Accountancy Scholarships

Beta Alpha Psi/KMPG Scholarship $500 One Award Active membership in Beta Alpha Psi.
I.B. McGladrey Scholarship $500 Two Awards Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Colonel Marinda Coultas Wood Scholarship $1,500 One Award Awarded to an upper division full-time accounting major. Must have completed intermediate accounting and have a minimum GPA of 3.2 in accounting. Preference given to applicants from Scott, Morgan, Greene, and Pike counties in Illinois and to applicants who plan to sit for the CMA exam.
Craig R. Neader Scholarship $1,000 Three Awards Must be enrolled at WIU majoring in accounting and be entering 4th or 5th year of the Integrated Accounting Program. GPA of 3.0. Must be able to document involvement in BAP and must be a United States citizen. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in Beta Alpha Psi.
J. David Smith Scholarship $1,000 Two Awards Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on need and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Samuel Oliva Scholarship $2,000 Three Awards Awarded to full-time or part-time graduate/undergraduate accounting majors who have completed a minimum of 60 SCH, have an overall GPA of 3.2, and have demonstrated leadership through involvement in accounting organizations.
Department of Accountancy Scholarships $200 - $750 Awarded to sophomore and junior accounting majors. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
IMA Student Chapter Scholarships (SCIMA) $350 Two Awards Awarded to one member of SCIMA. Selected by officers of SCIMA based on participation in SCIMA activities.
Society of Accountancy Scholarship WIU-QC $350 One Award Awarded to a member of the WIU-RC Society of Accountancy. Selected by officers of the Society of Accountancy based on participation in SA activities.
George Krull Jr. Scholarship $500 One Award Awarded to a junior accounting major. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Thomas R. Rauman Scholarship $500 Two Awards Awarded to sophomore, junior, and graduate accounting majors. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Penelope J. Yunker Scholarship $500 One Award Must be enrolled at WIU majoring in accounting and be entering the 5th year of the Integrated Accounting Program or be enrolled in the Master of Accountancy program. GPA of 3.25 overall & in accounting. Must be able to document involvement in accounting student organization.
John Deere Scholarship $1,000 Two Awards Awarded to accounting majors. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Bruce Kruse Scholarship $750 One Award Awarded to accounting majors. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Thomas Nardi Scholarship $1,000 One Award Awarded to accounting major with preference given to students from Auburn, Divernon, Pawnee, Virden, and Waverly counties. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Michael Cochrane Scholarship $1,000 One award Awarded to accounting majors. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Steven Penn Scholarship $500 One award Awarded to accounting majors. Selected by Department of Accountancy faculty based on academic performance and participation in accounting organizations and activities.
Harriet Hunt Memorial Scholarship $500 One award Awarded to Quad Cities Campus accounting major. Selected by the faculty at the WIU-QC campus based on academic performance

American Association of Hispanic Certified Public Accountants (Hispanic Only) Must be of Hispanic descent, be an undergraduate student, and have completed or be enrolled in an intermediate level accounting course. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in accounting and overall. Deadline: September 15
American Business Woman - Quincy Charter Chapter Three $500 awards Applicants may be freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior; must have a 2.5 GPA or higher; must be planning to attend or be attending an accredited college, university, technical school, or community college; seeking a business or professional career and must be citizen of the US. Applicant MAY NOT be a member of the Quincy Charter Chapter or a member’s dependent. Government Finance Officer’s Association Frank Greathouse Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to one or more students. For seniors enrolled-full time in an undergraduate program and preparing for a career in state and local government finance. Citizen or permanent resident of the US or Canada. Institute of Management Accountants-Heartland Council Scholarship Must be a full-time student and an accounting major who will be classified as a junior in the Fall semester. Institute of Management Accountants-Stuart Cameron & Margaret McLeod Scholarships. Submit completed application to the IMA Chapter President or IMA Student Chapter President on or before February 15. Margaret Keldie Scholarship Sponsored by American Society of Woman Accountants (Women Only) $1,000 $ 500 Two full-time($1,000) and one part-time ($500) available to women students intending to pursue a career in accounting. Full-time and part-time graduate & undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of accounting courses with a cumulative B average are eligible. National Association of Black Accountants Minority Scholarship (Minority Only) Academic excellence in accounting and general curricula. Faculty recommendations. Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship $3,500 Awarded to one or more upper division undergraduate or graduate student of public administration (governmental) finance, political science, economics or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management. Applicants must belong to one of the following groups (as defined by the US Census Bureau): Black, Indian, Eskimo, or Aleut, Asian or Pacific Islander, Hispanic. State Farm Companies Exceptional Student Fellowship $3,000 Criteria include: Academic achievement, demonstrated balance between academics and leadership activities, leadership in extracurricular activities, nomination by and recommendations of professors, advisors and other academic officers, potential to lead in a business career. Each winner receives $3,000 to be used for educational expenses during the academic year following the competition. The award is nonrenewable. Fifty fellowships are given each year. Must be a full-time junior or senior when you apply, have a 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale, US citizen.
