General Tutoring and Support

Rocky’s Resources offers support for math, science, and general support.

Zoom into a virtual tutoring session and chat with a tutor in real time using video, audio, or chat only, as you work in a shared viewing space.

Writing, History, and Political Science Support

The University Writing Center offers virtual support with writing projects as well as tutoring in history and political science. E-tutoring appointments allow you to upload a writing project and receive feedback on it. Online appointments allow you to work with a consultant in real time, using video, audio, or chat only, as you work in a shared viewing space. Computer Science Support

Computer science tutors will create a Google Meet session when beginning their shift. The nickname they will use is "cs-tutor" and anyone in the WIU organization should be able to search for/join the meeting.

Tutoring should be available MW 11:00-12:30, 1:00-2:00, and 3:30-5:00; TTh 11:00-2:00; F 11:00-12:00 and 1:00-2:00.

Campus Recreation

The Campus Recreation team is continually updating their facebook page with great information on how to stay healthy and also provide weekly home workout tips. Click here to see options to experience recreation and leisure while practicing social distancing. Staff are also available to answer any programming information via email regarding club sports, intramurals, aquatics, and fitness services.

Career  Development

The Career Development Center is ready to assist virtually through development of resumes, cover letters, mock interview and interview assistance,  job and internship searching, career navigation, and graduate school applications.

Multicultural Center

The Multicultural Center is ready to support students virtually through 1:1 appointments, social media cultural and educational campaigns, remote programming and discussions. Staff will continue to provide emotional and cultural support to help students adjust and adapt to a virtual environment.

Scholarship Office

The Scholarship Office team is available to answer questions and check the status of applications and outside scholarships.

Student Development and Success Center

The  Student Development and Success Center is available to assist you via phone and email with disability resources, referral services, withdrawal questions, and more.

Office of Student Activities

The Office of Student Activities is available and ready to assist students and student organizations virtually with holding meetings, conducting business such as voting and elections, student organization registration, and future event planning.  Additionally, the Office of Student Activities can help student organization members stay engaged with virtual programming and executive board members stay on task with virtual meeting tips.

University Union Bookstore

The University Union Bookstore continues to take online orders during this time on their website and is offering free ground shipping until the Bookstore reopens.  

The deadline for textbook rentals from the Western Illinois University Bookstore will be extended. The University Bookstore is working with textbook vendors to determine a later return date.

University Counseling Center

The  University Counseling Center offers additional resources and information via wiu.edu/ucc .   Staff can offer consultation and referral services by phone. Students looking for counseling in their area may find https://findtreatment.samhsa.gov / a useful resource.

University Housing and Dining Services

Residence Hall Staff are available and accessible to students through the front desk of each hall. For any additional questions or concerns, students can email University Housing and Dining Services for extra support. 

Front desks are accessible as follows: 

  • Corbin/Olson Daily: 24 hours
  • Lincoln/Washington/Grote Halls Daily: 8:00AM-8:00PM
  • Thompson Hall Daily: 8:00AM-8:00PM

Convenience-Stores are open daily at Thompson Hall and Corbin/Olson Dining Halls continue to serve students and meals are being served at Corbin/Olson. Click here for updated hours.

Western Courier

The Western Courier team is still active making sure students have updates. Western’s student newspaper will continue to have information via westerncourier.com .

 Tools For Success

For a limited time, many companies are providing additional resources for free or at reduced costs to assist students. Below you can find some virtual tools to assist in finding success. 
  • WIU Technology Resource Overview - This page outlines many avenues of support and ways to stay connected including Western Online, Hangouts, Good Drive, Zoom, and more!
  • RedShelf - Access to eBooks
  • Google Hangout - Ability to use audio/visual to meet with advisors, faculty, and classmates. See more resources for how faculty will be using Google Hangouts as well as other online resources.
  • Study Blue - Crowdsourced study library, with flashcards, notes and study guides.
  • Quizlet - Simple learning tools that let you study a wide array of topics and subjects.
