Advice for Freshmen:
Explore and experience as many different opportunities as possible in order to help discover your passion and strengths. Get out of your comfort zone. Join a Club or Organization and take on a leadership position. Enroll in a speech class during your first semester. Participate in at least one summer internship. Take full advantage of utilizing a professor’s knowledge while taking their class. Study abroad for a semester if possible.

Favorite WIU Memory: Walked on my freshman year and made WIU’s JV Basketball Team, I got to experience the completion of the Leslie F. Malpass Library during my Junior year, going to the Roe Boat for dinner, going out to the Tack Room inside the Lamoine Hotel for fried cauliflower with cheese, grabbing a cold one on Friday/Saturday at the Regulator, and remembering the brutally cold winters during the late 70’s as I trucked across campus from Thompson Hall to Simpkins Hall.

Family Information/Special Interests and Hobbies: Married my high school sweetheart Lori Deibert (1981 WIU graduate). We will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in June. We have a son Taylor and a daughter Mackenzie Mills. They have two daughters Atlee (5) and Parker (3) and they are expecting a third child in October. I retired in August of 2019 and I’ve been able to enjoy time with family and friends, traveling, getting involved with local mission work for the church, golf (during 2020 COVID-19 golfed 72 days straight), fishing, cycling, reading (Barron’s and WSJ), and working out.
