75 Students to Study Abroad in the Spring
On November 17, the Office of Study Abroad held its pre-departure meeting for students who will study abroad in spring 2010. Forty- eight of the seventy-five students are participating in the faculty-led Study Abroad courses, Communication Around the “World”, Russian Agriculture and International Marketing and Fashion Merchandising in Italy. The remaining students will study for the whole semester in various countries including, Sweden, Peru, The Netherlands, Australia, Spain, France, the UK, Bulgaria and Japan.
Six students received scholarships or grants for their studies. Carlin Anderson (Arenzville, IL) received the WIU Study Abroad scholarship to use while studying in Bulgaria. Sarah Adams (Rushville, IL) received the Dr. James F. and Syndy M. Conger Study Abroad Award to use while studying in The Netherlands. Students who received grants for faculty-led courses were: Melisa Herwig (Franklin Grove, IL) – Grant from the School of Agriculture for Russian Agriculture; Courtney Cluney (Glasford, IL) – Grant from the Office of Study Abroad for Communication around the “World”; and Courtney Johnson (Macomb, IL) and Dawn Robinson (Markham, IL) – Grants from the Office of Study Abroad for International Marketing and Fashion in Italy. Congratulations, students!
Study abroad opportunities are available in more than 50 countries to qualified students of any major or minor. Financial aid and scholarships can make study abroad surprisingly affordable for WIU students.
