Peterman Takes Positives from U.S. Open Experience
Western Illinois golfer Kyle Peterman's stay at the 2009 U.S. Open wasn't as long as he had hoped, but it wasn't short on positive experiences.
Peterman, who qualified for the Open as an amateur by winning a playoff at the Grayslake Sectional Qualifier, shot a two-round score of 156 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., and missed the third round cut on Saturday, June 20.
Despite not playing as well as he hoped, Peterman said playing in the U.S. Open provided a great experience to a young golfer hoping to someday play at the next level.

108 WIU student-athletes selected to The Summit League’s Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence
Western Illinois University had a total of 108 student-athletes named to The Summit League’s Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, the third-most of any league institution.
Oakland led the way with a league-best 146 selections, followed by South Dakota State and Western Illinois, which had 117 and 108 recipients, respectively.

Kickoff for Western Illinois University’s September 12 football game in DeKalb, Ill., has been set for 6:30 p.m., Northern Illinois released today.
The Huskies’ home opener will be the second game of the year for the Fighting Leathernecks.

WIU places 127 student-athletes on Summit League’s Winter/Spring Academic All-League Team
With the second semester of the 2008-09 academic year in the books, The Summit League has announced its Academic All-League Teams for the winter and spring seasons and Western Illinois has placed 127 student-athletes on it, the second-most of any league institution.
