Newest Members of Alumni Association Welcomed at Graduation

Graduation photo of Alumni Award RecipientsWestern Illinois University welcomed the newest members of the Alumni Association during commencement ceremonies on May 15-16 in Macomb and May 17 in the Quad Cities. More then 2,450 students, including nearly 1,940 undergraduate and approximately 515 graduate students, were eligible to participate in the Spring 2009 ceremonies.

All Macomb ceremonies, including the May 15 Honors Convocation and Graduate Commencement and the three undergraduate Commencement ceremonies on May 16 were held in Western Hall.

Campus Participates in Full-Scale Emergency Exercise

Emergency Exercise PhotoWestern Illinois University, in collaboration with the McDonough County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), participated in a full-scale emergency operations exercise May 27 on the WIU-Macomb campus.
 
The simulation included multiple shooters in Waggoner and Currens halls; a chemical release in Currens; emergency responders from campus, Macomb, McDonough County, the region and the state; and 100 cadets from the Great Lakes Naval Base who were the actors, portraying the students and shooters.

Pratt Named Director of New School of Engineering

William Pratt, director of the Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR) program for the Southern Technology Outreach and Innovation Program, has been named the director of Western Illinois University's new School of Engineering, effective June 8, according to College of Business and Technology Dean Tom Erekson.

"We are pleased to have Dr. Pratt join our team as the director of the new School of Engineering," Erekson noted.
