Leatherneck Linebacker Headed to the NFL

Jason Williams & Coach Don PattersonWestern Illinois University senior Jason Williams became the top draft pick in Leatherneck history when the Dallas Cowboys picked him with their first selection in the 2009 NFL Draft Sunday morning.

“There are players in the third and fourth round that can get on the field quicker than maybe some players we would have looked at in the second round,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Saturday. “We are excited about (Sunday) and what we’re going to be doing. We liked our odds better going into the third round.”

It turns out Jones was referring Saturday to Williams, and on Sunday he got the guy he wanted.

New Anthropology Degree Approved

The Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) approved Western Illinois University's request to offer a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology degree.

The 120-semester hour degree, which was approved by Western's Board of Trustees in December 2007, was created to provide students with the understanding and skills related to human behavior, diversity and social problems. The program will be delivered at the WIU-Macomb campus beginning Fall 2009.

"We created the anthropology degree program, which has a concentration in environmental issues to provide graduates of the program with greater understanding of human biological and cultural diversity," said WIU Provost and Academic Vice President Jack Thomas.
