Stoudamire Signs with San Francisco
Western Illinois All-American defensive back Patrick Stoudamire (Portland, OR/Centennial) agreed to a free agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers on April 24.
Last year San Francisco ranked 15th in total defense and 21st in passing defense. He joins a 49ers team that drafted one other cornerback, midway through the seventh and final round.

New Academic Center for Student-Athletes
Construction recently wrapped up on the newly renovated Western Illinois Athletics Academic Services office on the lower floor of Brophy Hall.
The renovations, which were funded completely through proceeds from the 2008 and 2009 Purple and Gold Auctions and other donations, feature a more private office complex where the Athletics Academic Services staff can give Fighting Leatherneck athletes better support.

Second Annual Shaymus Relays
After raising nearly $11,000 last year, the Western Illinois University track and field team has announced the Second Annual Shaymus Relays to be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 6, at the Western Illinois Track at Hanson Field.
The event is being held for the second time in as many years as a way to raise funds for nine-year-old Shaymus Guinn (son of Tony Guinn, Western Illinois women’s soccer coach), who has been diagnosed and is undergoing treatment for Ewing’s Sarcoma, which is a rare form of cancer.
