Leatherneck Club Continues Membership Drive
MACOMB, Ill. - The drive to 1,000 continues. At the start of this summer a new initiative began. The Leatherneck Club, Western Illinois Athletics Department's fund raising organization, is looking to expand its membership to meet the needs of more than 400 student-athletes.
The Leatherneck Club has been raising funds for student-athletes for more than 40 years. Monies raised goes towards a variety of projects for Western Athletics, including improving travel and nutrition experiences, training aids and equipment and program enhancements, but ultimately the Leatherneck Club wants to provide the best Division I experience for the student-athletes. Leathernecks Excel in Graduation Success Rate
MACOMB, Ill. - According to the latest federal Graduation Success Rate (GSR) released by the NCAA, Western Illinois Athletics had 10 programs graduate more than 77 percent of their student-athletes. The announcement came from the NCAA office on Tuesday (Oct. 25).
The entire Athletics Department posted a 77 percent graduation rate.The latest rate is based off the cohort year 2001-04. Read more.
Leatherneck Softball Team Receives NCAA Public Recognition Award
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Head coach Holly Van Vlymen and the Western Illinois Leatherneck softball team was recently congratulated by the NCAA for being a recipient of the NCAA Public Recognition Award.
The NCAA Public Recognition Awards are given to teams that have an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate in the 'Top 10' percent of all squads in their respective sports. Read more.
Leatherneck Women's Basketball Spends Time at St. Paul
MACOMB, Ill - Six Western Illinois women's basketball players and the coaching staff stopped by St. Paul Elementary School to spend some time with the students before the season starts on Nov. 2 with an exhibition at home against Illinois-Springfield.

Ceola Clark III Ranked 12th Best College Basketball Player in Illinois
MACOMB, Ill. - ESPN Chicago writer and blogger Scott Powers ranked his 'Top 30' college basketball players in Illinois earlier this week, and Western Illinois senior guard Ceola Clark III (Gurnee/Warren Township) was listed 12th. Read more.
Engraved Plaque Begins Lee Calhoun Memorial Plaza Project
MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois Athletics Department and Track & Field program have announced the Lee Calhoun Memorial Plaza Project, starting with an engraved plaque on the Lee Calhoun Statue out at the Hanson Field track.
Made by Lacky Monument in Macomb, the plaque was installed in late September. The plaque is the first addition to the plaza that honors Lee Quency Calhoun, who was the track and field coach at Western Illinois from 1980 until his untimely passing in 1989. Read more.
