President Goldfarb's Fall 2009 Welcome Letter
WIU President Al Goldfarb recently welcomed new and returning students, faculty and staff to Western Illinois University for the 2009-2010 academic year. Goldfarb, who begins his eighth year at Western, expressed his gratitude to the campus community for its continued support and spoke about several "firsts" at Western as the new school year begins.

Engineering Building Ribbon-Cutting
Nearly one year ago, the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) approved Western Illinois University's longstanding plan to offer a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. On August 19, officials from Western Illinois University, the City of Moline, Renew Moline, the Quad Cities Illinois Chamber of Commerce and several other organizations brought that plan full-circle when the Caxton Block Building in Moline (IL) was dedicated as the new temporary home for the WIU engineering degree program.

Western Named a Top Tier Masters Institution
Western Illinois University continues to be ranked in the top tier of Midwest Universities Master's granting institutions, according to U.S. News and World Report's Annual College Rankings 2010 edition. For the fifth consecutive year, Western has also been re-named a Best Midwestern College by the Princeton Review.

WIU is Northern Illinois and California-Bound
Join the WIU Alumni Association in Illinois and California this month for three great events! On Saturday, September 12, join us in DeKalb for our WIU vs. NIU Pre-game Social and then cheer the Leathernecks to victory over Northern Illinois. On Friday, September 25, come to Bertrand at Mister A's for our San Diego Alumni and Friends Event. Then on Saturday, September 26, join us at O'Neill's Irish Pub for our San Francisco Alumni and Friends Event, followed by a game between the Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Ballpark!

Homecoming 2009
Join the WIU Alumni Association for Homecoming 2009 on October 16-17. The weekend kicks off on Friday, October 16 with the All-Alumni Social at the Alumni House.
On Saturday, enjoy the the Old Stompin' Ground Runaround 5K run/1.5 mile walk, continental breakfast, parade, and lunch at "The Right Place," the big tent west of Hanson Field. While there, visit with faculty and staff from the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business and Technology, Education and Human Services and Fine Arts and Communication; the Centennial Honors College; the Center for International Studies; University Libraries; the Board of Trustees Bachelor of Arts Degree Program; staff and friends from Student Services, the Alumni Association and Athletics. Then, cheer on your Fighting Leathernecks as they play Missouri State University.
