2009 Homecoming Highlights

23rd Annual Old Stompin' Ground Runaround

WIU alumni and friends joined in the 23rd annual Old Stompin’ Ground Runaround 5K/1.5 mile run/walk held on Homecoming morning with a record setting 147 participants.

Michael Lodesky was the overall male winner with  a time of 17:16 and the female overall winner was Rhonda Haffner with a time of 22:41.

The 15 and under age group female winners were Tiffany Slater, first; Marizona Dahlstrom, second and Lauren Knicl, third.

The 16 to 19 age group female winners were: Desiree Dye, first and Ciera Shimkus, second. 

The 20 through 29 age group male winners were: Fun Run winnersBrian Pinta, first; Ryan Nalezny, second and Brian Adams, third. The female winners in the 20 through 29 age group were Anna Evert, first; Caitie Kryder, second and Sophie Simmons, third.

The 30 through 39 age group male winners were: Matthew Butler, first; Joel Gruver, second and Jim Utterback ’03, third. The female winners in the 30 through 39 age group were: Sarah Holthaus, first; Christa Allaman Ingledue ’01 MS ’03, second and Nevy White, third.

The 40 through 49 age group male winners were: Michael Campbell ’86, first; Lawrence Pickett  ’01, second and Buzz Hoon ’86 MA ’91, third. The female winners in the 40 through 49 age group were: Lori Waters Bilbrey ’90 MS-ED ’86 MS-ED ’08, first; Kelly Keithley, second and Heather McIlvaine-Newsad, third.

The 50 through 59 age group male winners were: Leroy Tappe ’77, first; Brian Savage ’73, second and Gary Sash MS ’07, third. The female winners in the 50 through 59 age group were: Karen Didden Kryder ’79, first; Mary Ellen Johnson Balas ’74, second and Betsy Hommel ’72 MS-ED ’88, third.

The 60 and over age group male winners were: Dennis Werling MA ’01, first; John Simmons, second and Deckle McLean, third. The female winner in the 60 and over age group was Ginger Dykstra, first.  In the walker category Terrence Hayden ’69 and Ed Ortciger ’94 tied for first place and Jennifer Ghormley came in second.
