Goldfarb, WIU Delegates Tour Asia

President Al Goldfarb and a group of Western delegates recently participated in the Spring 2007 Asian Tour, which included visits to South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

Goldfarb, along with Director of Alumni Programs Amy Spelman MS '98, Interim Center for International Studies Director Murali Venugopalan, Associate Dean of the College of Business and Technology Larry Wall and former WIU Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration faculty member Hyung "Hunter" Cho, who is now the president and CEO of Amthink Consulting Inc. in Seoul, participated in the nine-day, five-city tour in early March.

"It was wonderful to meet our alumni and friends in these countries," Goldfarb said. "Many of our alumni in Korea, Japan and Taiwan remember their days at Western with great fondness, so it was nice to talk with them about their time at WIU and learn more about them."

While in South Korea, Goldfarb and various members of the group held dinners and visited alumni, university officials and business professionals in Daejeon, Gwangju and Seoul. From Seoul the tour continued to Osaka, Japan and finished in Taipei, Taiwan. According to Venugopalan, in addition to alumni visits, Goldfarb participated in several signing ceremonies and visited with presidents and university officials at Woosong University in Daejeon, Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka and at Ming Chuan University in Taipei.

"This was an incredible opportunity to enhance our internationalization efforts," Venugopalan said.

"This trip was an excellent way for the University to expand its alumni network," Spelman added.
