The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR), under the direction of Mandeep Singh '86 MBA '87, established committees which were charged with determining excellence in each category.
Heidi Clemmens, associate professor of dance, and members of the University Dance Theatre assisted in Macomb's Bridgeway, a facility for handicapped adults, and were awarded an innovations award from the Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (IARF).
The award was presented for a dance which Clemmens choreographed and in which UDT members danced with Bridgeway staff and dancers. IARF and its 100-member rehabilitation facilities presented the innovation award, with the top five submissions displayed at its annual conference. This year, Bridgeway's dance number was selected as the winner based on originality of idea, impact on the local community, creativity, uniqueness of approach, applicability or rehabilitation services providers, ability to be replicated at other agencies and overall quality and clarity of presentation.
Study Receives National-Level Recognition
Dea Forney, college student personnel (CSP), received national-level recognition for her work on a study relating to the Myers-Briggs personality test.
Forney, along with two colleagues, received the 2007 Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development (MECD) Research Award from the Association for Assessment in Counseling and Education, a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA). The trio, which included former Western CSP professor Nancy Evans, authored "Two Approaches to Examining the Stability of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Scores."
The article resulted from a database Forney compiled as part of a longitudinal study of CSP students that she has been conducting for almost 20 years.
Fall 2006 Commencement Weekend
Alumni Achievement Awards were presented to Richard Weart '70, Lizbeth Bishoff '71, Derrick Golden '88, Patrick Magoon '76, Marinda Wood '58 and John Jury '70 MS '72. At far right is Alumni Council President Marty Green '87. Degrees were awarded to more than 900 undergraduate students and more than 200 graduate students.
Supply Chain Management Program Receives Grant to Offer Online Courses
A Higher Education Cooperation Act (HECA) grant has been awarded by the Illinois Board of Higher Education to Western's supply chain management (SCM) program. The grant opens doors for Illinois community college students interested in obtaining a degree in supply chain management, which prepares students in such areas as transportation, purchasing, warehousing, inventory strategy and global logistics.
Western's supply chain management program received the $62,100 grant for the project "Increasing Access to Supply Chain Management Instruction," which includes creating an introductory online course in SCM which will be available through John Wood Community College, Quincy, and made available to any college in the state participating in ILCCO (Illinois Community Colleges Online), as well as through Western.
According to John Drea, marketing and finance department chair, three additional upper division online courses in supply chain management will also be developed using HECA funds, with those courses delivered online directly from Western.
Rallo to Head Angelo State
Joe Rallo, provost and academic vice president, has been named the fourth president of Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
Rallo will assume his ASU duties effective June 1.
"The selection of Provost Joe Rallo as president of Angelo State University is an endorsement of the outstanding work he has done on behalf of Western Illinois University," said President Al Goldfarb. "I am particularly grateful to Joe for his recent double duty as provost and acting president during my medical leave. He effectively managed both roles and I am confident he will be successful as president at a regional public university."
