News from Your Alumni Association

On behalf of the faculty, staff and students at Western Illinois University, I bring you greetings and news from your Alumni Association.

As you read through this issue of Western News, I hope you will see what an exciting time it is at WIU! Here are just a few highlights:

. Our spring commencement ceremonies mark a momentous occasion at Western: we will welcome the 100,000th member into the WIU Alumni Association. As an alumnus, he or she will become one of the "permanent trustees" of this University who help shape our future.
. Our recent visit to Asia greatly emphasizes President Goldfarb's commitment to this Alumni Association and to our International Programs as set forth in the University's Strategic Plan-Higher Values in Higher Education. We were pleased to take our program abroad and visit our many alumni who live in Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
. In our efforts to bring new opportunities to our alumni, we recently launched the Online Social Network, which continues to grow and provide you with ways to connect to old friends, make new ones, job search and chat about your Western memories. See our special section for more details.

We want to hear from you-let us know where you would like us to visit. We've planned many great events around the world in the hope that we'll get to meet as many of you as possible. See a full list of events on our Alumni Association Events Calendar. If you have an idea or suggestion, please let us know.

I also wanted to let you know about an opportunity to play a vital role in the future of WIU by serving as a member of the Alumni Council. For more information about the council and how it functions, visit www.wiu.edu/alumni. If you wish to be a candidate or would like to nominate someone, send a letter of interest and resume to the Alumni Association at 1 University Circle, Macomb, Ill., 61455, or fax 309/298-2914. The deadline for application is May 1.

It is my pledge to you that we will continue to do our best to provide you with the benefits and services you've earned as graduates of this University. I invite you to join me in celebrating our Western ties at an upcoming event.

In addition to alumni, Western has many great friends around the world-and we hope to see many of them at one of our Alumni "and Friends" events!
