Western's Board of Trustees approved new degree programs in museum studies and anthropology at its Dec. 14 meeting. The degree programs will be forwarded to the Illinois Board of Higher Education for approval.
The Master of Arts in Museum Studies, which is designed to educate students in the history of museums and the aspects of museum work, will be comprised of coursework offered through the art and the recreation, parks and tourism administration departments, in conjunction with museum professionals at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa. The degree program will serve nontraditional graduate students, as well as traditional graduate students with bachelor's degrees in related programs, on the WIU-Quad Cities campus.
The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology has been created to provide students with the understanding and skills related to human behavior, diversity and social problems. The program will serve students on the Macomb campus.
