Western's Online Social Newtork Named

Western Illinois University's online social network provided by the WIU Alumni Association—established in 2006 and known as inCircle—has been operating under its new name, RockeNetwork, since Dec. 1.

This social network allows alumni to reconnect with college friends and at the same time get career information, learn more about what's going on at Western and join specialized chat groups.

Currently, more than 2,000 alumni have joined the online community. In addition to re-establishing Western connections, users can read about current events posted by WIU student bloggers.

“It has been so exciting to see our alumni starting groups and keeping in touch with one another,” said Amanda Shoemaker, assistant director of alumni programs and coordinator of the network. “As of now, more than 130 groups have been created … from majors such as RPTA and broadcasting to campus organizations like ROTC and Marching Band to geographic locations.”

Only people who have a degree from Western can access the site at https://incircle.wiu.edu. To join RockeNetwork, alumni must sign in using their name and Western ID number to register for the first time. Those who do not know their Western ID number can log on to the Alumni Association's online directory (www.wiu.edu/alumni), click on online directory and find it on the individual display menu option through STARS.
