Secretary of State announces WIU-themed personalized plates
Western alumni and friends of the University now have a new “license” to show their support—by ordering WIU-themed personalized plates for their vehicles.
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White came to campus in October to announce that motorists can order vanity and personalized WIU specialty plates. The plates were previously only available with numbers, but now they are available in letter or letter and number combinations. WIU will receive $25 toward scholarship programs for each plate ordered.
White presented Jackie Thompson ‘85 MS ‘94, vice president of administrative services, with a framed copy of one of the new plates.
Alumni and friends interested in new plates can go to www.cyberdriveillinois.com and type in plate combinations to see if they are available. This replaces the procedure of mailing in three plate combinations and waiting to learn their availability, White explained.
The Secretary of State's mobile unit was stationed on campus to bring office services to WIU faculty, staff, students and local residents. The mobile unit returns to WIU January 25, February 22, March 17 and April 18, 2008. These services include renewing drivers' licenses and state ID cards, purchasing annual vehicle license plate stickers, titling and registering vehicles, obtaining disability placards, purchasing WIU specialty license plates, registering to vote, and registering to become an organ and tissue donor.
