Supervised work experience in visual communication with an approved employer. Written weekly reports required. Must be completed before entering last term on campus. Prerequisites: junior/senior standing; Art 314, 315, 316, 415; a minimum 2.00 GPA overall; a minimum 2.50 GPA in art courses within the major; and departmental approval. Graded S/U only.

 

Course Requirements
  1. Junior, senior or graduate standing
  2. Minimum 2.0 GPA at WIU
  3. Minimum 2.5 GPA in ART classes that count towards the Graphic Design program
  4. Minimum of three classes completed in the Graphic Design program:

ART 215 Advertising Design I
ART 314 Advertising Computer Art I
ART 315 Advertising Design II
ART 316 Advertising Design III
ART 415 Advertising Design IV
ART 416 Studio Problems in Advertising Design

 

Before registering for ART 414

You must complete the following six steps

  1. Complete the Internship Application Form
  2. Obtain a copy of your WIU transcript from the Registrar’s Office
  3. Develop an internship cover letter and resume
  4. Establish the internship company
  5. Interview and receive permission for internship
  6. Complete the Internship Company Form

To registering for ART 414, the Internship Coordinator must receive and approve:

the Internship Application Form
your WIU transcript
acover letter and resume
the Internship Company Form

 

Responsibilities during the Internship
  1. Complete the Internship Description Form within the first week of starting the internship
  2. Complete the Weekly Report and update your activity log every week. Insure that the weekly report is received by the Internship Coordinator each week.
  3. Before the semester ends, the Internship Coordinator must receive your Internship Evaluation Form
  4. Before the semester ends, the Internship Coordinator must receive the Supervisor’s Evaulation

 

Evaluation
  1. Weekly reports and forms - evaluated on the quality of responses, completeness of report and if received by the coordinator on time
  2. Internship supervisor’s evaluation of intern’s effort, quality of work, attitude, work habits, attendance and willingness to learn
  3. Internship coordinator’s evaluation of student’s effort, quality of work, attitude, work habits, attendance and willingness to learn
