In
this series of paintings and drawings, artist Elaine Clance Lynch
explores the feminine experience and concepts of beauty. The visual
language of her imagery, developed through personal experience,
appropriates pop-culture, objects, textiles, pattern and color
having common reference to femininity. Her art often incorporates
collected objects that are tied to the rituals of adornment ordinarily
associated with women, presenting a personal testimony to feminine
experience. She teaches in the Department of Design, Art, Architecture
and Planning at the University of Cincinnati.
This exhibition is co-sponsored by the Illinois Humanities Council,
WIU Women's Studies Program, WIU Women's Center, WIU Foundation,
College of Fine Arts and Communication, and the Department of
Art.
Please visit the Elaine Clance Lynch exhibition
site to learn more information about the exhibit and to view
a few pieces of her work.
