This exhibit presents recently produced decorated fabrics by WIU Assistant Professor of Art Mary Gill. The decorations include patterns and narrative images derived from the Trinidad Carnival and recall understandings unique to the West Indian background of the artist. Surface design techniques used include batik, a wax/paste resist; katazome, a Japanese stenciling technique; and shibori or tie/dye.
