Juror's Statement - John Bybee

Jurying this year's Student Art Show at Western Illinois University was a
pleasure and an honor. 151 wonderful entries were submitted of which 62 were
selected for exhibition. My intent was to select exceptional works that
showcase the variety and diversity of talent present at WIU. I found the task
difficult with so many outstanding works. I was pleased to see a broad range of
content, materials, subjects, and visual vocabularies to chose from. After much
deliberation, I arrived at a body of work that reflects WIU's wide range of
creative voices. The effectiveness, strength, and creativity of this work
represents to talent of the students and of their inspiring faculty. I
sincerely congratulate your department. I am encouraged to see the results of
both a nurturing and a creative environment in the pursuit of art.
