I usually work with images from nature because of how complex they are, but the natural beauty is something I am very inspired by. That beauty comes from the color combinations, patterns and forms, which people have mimicked from the beginning of time. My current work plays off the natural patterns or camouflage in nature and uses man made patterns or objects to accentuate those forms in nature.

The works I have created over the last few years have been a reflection of my experiences, emotions, and ideas about the world.  Struggle, imperfection, and fragmentation are themes which feed my work.  In my work clay is thrown, ripped, pulled as well as carefully applied.  My handling of the material I use is meant to reflect these themes as well.  The treatment is meant to show the inherent nature of the material as well as shape and content according to the themes.  This allows the treatment of the material to act as a metaphor to the human condition.  I hope through this display of the human condition a feeling of empathy can emerge from the viewer.  By working in these broad parameters it allows me to use the subject matter, the presentation, and the rendering of the form, to relate to my overall theme of the human condition.
