The Permanent Collection
is comprised of over 1,200 objects of art in a variety of two
and three-dimensional media, including contemporary prints and
drawings, "Old Master" prints, painting, photography,
sculpture, and ceramics. Major areas of research and collection
are WPA paintings and prints,"old master" prints and
contemporary graphics, including prints and drawings and works
on paper. Minor areas of research and collection include contemporary
paintings, sculpture, glass and ceramics. The collection also
includes photographs by regional photographers. Objects in the
collection have been acquired through purchases, commission,
bequest and gifts.
The Permanent Collection
is used to advance knowledge and understanding of the objects
through exhibition, research and interpretation. Objects are
made available for loan for research or exhibition. As stated
in our mission, the Western Illinois University Art Gallery
is devoted to collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting
these objects of art.
