National and regional studies have shown that job opportunities
for art majors in the fields of graphic design, studio art,
and art education are ever expanding. One example is desktop
publishing -taught in our graphic design program. According
to the US Department of Labor, this field will be among
the top ten of all occupational growth areas through 2010.
Through its curriculum and the process of advising, the
art department tries to facilitate the attainment of attitudes
and skills which lead to employment opportunities, continued
education, and art education certification. Such activities
include a course for graphic design majors which results
in a portfolio of works to present to employers, and a course
for studio majors in areas other than advertising, designed
to let students organize their own exibitions and familiarize
them with various means which enable fine artists to survive
in the art world.
