BA Studio
The Department of Art offers the Bachelor of Arts degree
to students seeking an art major in the studio area
and a minor in a department outside the art area. The degree
prepares students for: careers as independent artists; employment
as professional artists in the fields of graphic design
and visual communication; and for selected advanced degrees.
Preparation includes the development of technical and creative
skills, exposure to a broad range of media and a background
in the historical study of art. The curriculum consists
of General Education; a 45 semester hour art major that
requires an Art Core; specialized courses from a full range
of studio offerings; and courses in art history; as well
as courses for a minor and free electives. The BA Studio
degree provides the opportunity for students to experience
a broad educational experience while still requiring a strong
concentration in art.
BA - Art Education
The Department of Art offers the Bachelor of Arts -
Art Education degree to students seeking an art major that
leads to teaching at the K-12 grade levels. The degree prepares
students to gain K-12 teacher certification in the state
of Illinois.
Preparation includes the development of technical and creative
skills, exposure to a broad range of media, study of the
theory and methods of art education, requirements from the
College of Education and Human Services and a background
in the historical study of art. The curriculum consists
of General Education; a 58 semester hour art major that
requires an Art Core; specialized courses from a full range
of studio offerings; art methods and theory courses; courses
